Source Description

Mary Frisell Manter writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to taking the non-resistance paper with Mr. Engley for the express purpose of having him understand the principles and assist in promoting the cause but he is incapable of explaining the principle to others though he firmly believes he is a "young man of an honest persevering mind." He takes another subscription for "brother" Aaron Guild for the same purpose. She will send as much as she can as she would rather "dress plain and poor and live on plain and cheap food then to have the slaves in bondage, and the Non Resistance too suffer for want of a little aid." She is grieved to read what Mr. Joshua Leavitt writes about Mr. Garrison, that good man."
