Source Description
Oliver Johnson informs William Lloyd Garrison that he is laboring to raise the $15 requested by Garrison, but is having difficulties in locating friends of the cause who are able to contribute. Johnson states that Mr. Hall proposed that he should search for fifteen people to contribute $1 each, and that he has decided to follow this course of action. Johnson notes that he misses Sydney Howard Gay, especially as Gay was the one at the Standard who assumed responsibility for entertaining visitors to the office, and now Johnson finds himself beholden to entertaining all who arrive "not excepting the bores, of whom there is no lack". Johnson closes by stating that Mary Anne finds herself in poor health, but hopes to improve by summer, and that John and Rosalie Hopper have had a son.
