The Westons, who were in Rome, are joining those in Paris. Richard Davis Webb discusses letter writing: "Every letter owes much to the imagination of the receiver, when it goes beyond the driest details of facts and business." Webb speaks of his affection for Lucia Weston. He mentions an unnamed child who plans to visit him. He says that the death of O'Neil may have caused a delay in the forwarding of the Athenaeum. He is making selections from James Stirling's "Letters from the Slave States," which he praises highly. [Letters from the Slave States, by James Stirling, published London, J.W. Parker and Son, 1857.] Webb asks Lucia Weston if it is possible to buy stereoscope slides in Paris. Mary A. Estlin spent the winter in Dublin.
