        "William Lloyd Garrison regrets that Oliver Johnson cannot be at Framingham Grove tomorrow. The financial prospects of the American Anti-Slavery Society are poor. Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman has given up the idea of holding an anti-slavery festival, which, like the anti-slavery fairs preceding it, was the main source of support, especially for the National Anti-Slavery Standard. She believes that friends abroad, who contributed nearly half of the income from fairs and festivals, are now \"muddled about the war here.\" Nevertheless, a vigorous effort will be made on behalf of the National Anti-Slavery Standard. Appeals are being sent out shortly."
