"Sunday morning, out of a compliment to Angelina, Debora & I went & heard Mr. Howe." At the Free Church in the afternoon "Messrs. [Amos A.] Phelps and [Asa] Mahan were preaching at a great rate there." All went to Dr. [Charles Theodor Christian] Follen's lecture. Tells about callers. "Edmund Quincy took tea here & he offered to put the clericals at defiance." Harriet Martineau has written that in her article in the Westminister Review "she has quoted part of a letter of Maria's without giving her name." Mrs. Maria W. Chapman has written to Nathaniel P. Rogers to come to the rescue of the annual meeting (of the Mass. Anti-Slavery Society?). "The blow has been struck. The Worcester A.S. Soc. [Anti-Slavery Society] have passed a vote ... that another paper is called for."
The letter is written on the margins and verso of a printed circular.
