"Includes colored pictures of the flag of the Merrimack River Valley, Mitchell's Falls, view of Bradford Cove, Poplar Lawn (Mr. Corliss's residence) and the design for Meigs Railway Bridge.",
"Charles Corliss produced this map in 1892 to promote his idea of a model community in Haverhill, Mass. called “Buena Vista” on the Ward Hill neck of the Merrimack River. The area would hole 10,000 residents and would be serviced by the Mieg’s Monorail between Haverhill and Lawrence. The resort hotel was nearly completed when the hotel was knocked off its foundation by a freak storm April 3, 1891. This was just when the sale of stock in the railroad was to be offered to the public. Corliss printed the map you see here in 1892 to encourage the public to support his plans. The hotel was rebuilt, but the project never got off the ground and the stock did not sell. The hotel remained open until November of 1910 when the building was torn down."
