When contemporary artist Takashi Murakami discovered that the Cleveland Museum of Art holds many historic works by artists who have long inspired him, he decided to create a series of “homages,” by recreating new iterations of the original artworks. <em>Surya, the Sun God </em>(2025) is one of those works. In particular it celebrates the exchanges between Japan and India as reflected in art and popular culture alike.
