Source Description
Jean Grolier (1489/90–1565) was treasurer-general of France and a renowned bibliophile. He was known for his love of fine bindings and had all the books in his library bound in the same style to match each other. This copy of The Prison of Love, a Spanish romance translated into Tuscan and then French, was rebound by Léon Gruel in the "Grolier style" and offered for sale at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, where Henry Walters purchased it.
