The oblong shape suggests that the canvas was painted for a specific place, perhaps a sacristy. Francken included a similar work in some of his paintings of collections.The miracle of Veronica's veil was a very popular subject in the late Middle Ages and then revived in the 1600s.    Frans Francken the Younger was the most prolific member of a family of successful painters in Antwerp.",
