Document source description
Through careful variation of the tone of his ink, Rosetsu conveys the segmented and bristling nature of a young stand of bamboo. The bare paper becomes the air and the ground upon which his tiny chicks play. Like its companion image of "Rooster, Hen, and Pines," (Walters 35.212) this work uses a few simple strokes of ink to convey a complex view of the world.
