provenance
William T. Walters, Baltimore, via George Lucas, Paris, 1865 (?) [1]; Henry Walters, Baltimore, 1894, by inheritance; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.[1] The Diaries of George Lucas strongly suggest a date of 1865 for this drawing when he purchased two drawings of prayer from the artist. However, the previous year he had also purchased a work depicting shepard and sheep.
