    "description": "Marilhat participated in a scientific expedition to Greece, Syria, Palestine, and Egypt in 1831. He remained in Cairo for two years, until he was forced by ill health to return to Paris. For the remainder of his career, Marilhat, popularly known as \"The Egyptian,\" continued to produce paintings of Near Eastern subjects. Though they were admired for their exotic quality, his paintings, with their precise delineation of forms, remained essentially neoclassical in style.",
