Source Description
The sun is setting in the west, illuminating the entrance to the Grand Canal. At the left, silhouetted against the sky, is the dome of Santa Maria della Salute. The right is dominated by the Ducal Palace and beyond it, the Campanile. Crossing from the Riva degli Schiavoni is a gondola laden with passengers. Several sailing vessels are moored at the right.Félix Ziem was active in the Paris Salon in 1849. He was influenced by the Barbizon school and acquired their naturalistic approach.
