Document source description

Amitayus, a form of Amitabha, is the main Buddha in the Pure Land sect of Vajrayana Buddhism. He can be recognized by the vase he holds in his lap, containing amrita, the nectar of immortality. He presides over the Pure Land paradise, where devotees, after death, go to reach enlightenment. In Tibetan and Chinese-Tibetan Buddhist culture, a devotee often commissioned an image of Amitayus to increase their merit, or chances of reaching enlightenment.
