1773-1829 (late Edo) L: 3 3/4 in. (9.6 cm) Citation Source image

At the left is the 12th-century warrior Asahina Saburô, who was known for his feats of strength. He can be recognized by the dancing crane crest visible near his knee. He is shown with a temple gate guardian ("niô"). They appear to be struggling with a box that is between them.
