Document source description
Made in two parts, this elegant lamp stand features a supporting column resembling the tapering stalk of a papyrus plant, terminating in a papyrus umbel, or flower cluster. The cap supported a bronze or ceramic bowl containing oil. The wick was made of twisted linen, and salt was added to the oil to prevent it from smoking.
