Source Description

This stone depiction of a Buddha head has many of the typical characteristics found in Gandharan Buddha depictions, including wavy hair and a small finely etched mouth. An urna is present between the Buddha’s brows; this is an auspicious sign denoting the figure as being the Buddha and recognized as the 31st physical characteristic of the Buddha outlined in the Buddhist text, the Lakkhana Sutta.
