Henry Heyward Manigault (1819-1869) was a nephew of William Henry Heyward. He was the second child of Anne Manigault Heyward and Major Gabriel Henry Manigault of South Carolina. The sitter has brown hair and a beard, and wears a black suit, white shirt and black bow tie. The base of an architectural column appears at the left. He would have been 30 year-old at the time this portrait was painted.Bounetheau was active in Charleston, and a popular teacher and miniature painter.
