Document source description
The introduction of cobalt underglazing from China in the 15th century spurred the development of the local blue-and-white ceramic industry in Vietnam, both for domestic use and for export. Designs of 15th- and 16th-century Vietnamese ceramics, especially the blossoms and floral scrolls decorating this box, tended to reference Chinese designs.
