Document source description
Like an emperor surrounded by his officials, Christ is shown here seated on a throne and flanked by the two archangels Michael and Gabriel dressed in Byzantine court costume. He blesses with one hand and holds a Gospel book in the other. Although of unknown origin, this tile is very similar to ones known to have been made in the Byzantine capital Constantinople (now Istanbul).
