Source Description
This tsuba is decorated with seven different scenes that are individually signed on silver cartouches. On the right side of the front is the Chinese immortal Chinnan (Ch. Chen Nan [Ch'en Nan]). He conjured a dragon from a gourd and ordered the dragon to provide rain to a drought-afflicted area. At the lower edge is a carp in a stream. Near the opening for the utility knife is a scene of bamboo, plum tree and the moon. At the upper left is a landscape scene of birds near a stream with rocks and grasses. On the reverse, four fish (tai and ayu) decorate the bottom section. On the left is a scene of a pavilion on a cliff. At the top are sea shells.
