Document source description
Sasaki Takatsuna was a soldier fighting with Minamoto no Yoshitsune against Kiso no Yoshinaka at the Battle of Uji in 1184. Takatsuna is famous for being the first to cross the Uji River. He was followed by the rest of Yoshitsune's forces, who won the battle. He is shown here in the middle of the river, being attacked with arrows from the enemy. A broken bridge over the river is behind him on the right.
