Document source description
In this openwork design, a gourd forms the right edge of the tsuba. The curve of the gourd creates space for the hair pick or utility knife opening on the right of the central opening. Vines and leaves occupy the upper and right sides of the tsuba. Gourds were a symbol of longevity and associated with autumn.
