Obverse: Head of Augustus, radiate, left. Reverse: Ara Providentiae Augusti (Altar of the 'Forethought' of Augustus) with doors closed. This copper alloy coin was worth 1/400 of a gold coin (aureus). It was issued under the authority of the emperor Tiberius (reigned 14-37 CE) in honor of his step-father and predecessor, Augustus (reigned 27 BCE-14 CE).
