Document source description

The island of Enoshima lies just off the coast of Kamakura, south of Tokyo. This small island has been the site of shrines since the 6th century. It is now a popular tourist destination. At the lower right of the composition, waves are shown breaking against the spit of land that connects Enoshima to the mainland. A torii gate stands on the shore and the roofs of temple and shrine buildings can be seen above the tree tops. At the left is a small village. On the reverse is a scene of seven fishermen pulling a net full of fish and other sea creatures.
