Source Description
The corrupt Giheiji (right) has been kicking and beating his son-in-law the ex-convict fishmonger Danshichi (left). Danshichi has not responded, realizing that any misdeed on his part will lead to a new prison sentence. Giheiji dares Danshichi to draw his blade, and at last he does so, first wounding Giheiji slightly, then running him through the heart. Meanwhile the sounds of an approaching festival procession can be heard.
