Seated Buddha

ca. 8th century (Dvaravati)

14.8 cm 36.5 cm

Citation Source image

The Buddha is depicted as if seated on a throne, performing a gesture of teaching with his right hand. No one knows what his left hand is doing; the Buddha ought to be holding an end of his robe, but here the end has become separated from the robe itself.
