Document source description

Takatori ceramics such as this one, named for the mountain at whose base the kilns were founded, are characterized by poured glaze decoration. The glaze extends only partway down the side of this tea caddy, leaving the roughened surface of the unglazed stoneware exposed. This approach reflects the Japanese appreciation for that which is not fully “finished.”
