Kannon (Sk. Avalokiteshvara) is the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion. Although male, he is often shown with feminine features. He appears in many forms. The one on this kozuka is known as the White-Robed Kannon and is originally derived from Chinese painting. Kannon is sitting on a rock above water. He is wearing flowing robes and has a halo behind him. The kozuka is signed by the artist on the reverse.
