Source Description
Grimaldi, an English artist of Genoese descent, has portrayed La Fayette (1757-1834) wearing his uniform as colonel-general of the National Guard of Paris. In 1789, the marquis, who had championed the American Revolution, introduced to the National Assembly in Paris a declaration of rights based on the American model.
