Its maker, Daniel de St. Leu, gained the favor of Queen Charlotte of Britain (1744–1818), an important mark of prestige. His watches made after 1765 indicate this in how they are signed, this one is engraved \"Dan[ie]l De St Leu / Ser[van]t to her Majesty / London.\"",
