Two figures are depicted at the upper right of this tsuba. The one in the back is the Taoist immortal Chokaro (Ch. Zhang Guo [Chang Kuo]). From the gourd in his hand, he has released his magic mule. The mule stays in the gourd until Chokaro calls it forth. Chokaro's spirit rides the mule in the upper left of the tsuba. On the reverse, a pagoda in the mountains is shown at the upper left.
