Source Description
This hydria depicts the pursuits of a young Greek aristocrat. The central scene shows a frontal view of a four-horse chariot, or quadriga, which only the very wealthy could afford. The upper register shows young men in outdoor activities-running and horseback riding-essential for any young nobleman's upbringing. The bottom register depicts a deer and panther between florettes, a purely decorative form reminiscent of the earlier Corinthian style.
