Document source description
This miniature, in a narrow gilt metal frame, shows a young boy and girl in a garden. The girl has a basket of flowers and the boy is presenting her with a spray of roses. The source for this composition is a painting by the Rev. Matthew W. Peters, which is known through an engraving published by John and Josiah Boydell in the 1780s. In this engraving however, the girl is wearing a straw hat with a wide brim, and the basket contains fruit and vegetables, not flowers. The reverse is copper, added later after a paper backing was removed.
