Document source description
The monk Mongaku (1139-1203; also known as Endô Moritô) is frequently depicted doing penance sitting under the Nachi waterfall. He almost froze to death under the waterfall, but was saved by Fudô Myô-ô. He became a monk after inadvertently killing his cousin rather than her husband. This is part of a mounted set in which all the pieces are related to Fudô Myô-ô.
