Source Description
Three women holding upraised torches are arranged in a circle underneath a basket. Six ornate candleholders extend from the basket. The base is decorated in relief of cupids holding festoons.This candelabrum is a pair with Walters 54.2309B. The pair was made to compliment a larger central piece (Walters 54.2309A) to form a garniture set.Thomire was one of the most distinguished artists producing ormolu (gilded bronze) works during the latter part of the 18th century and during the First French Empire.
