Source Description
The artist presents this scene from Genesis 44:12-17 in an almost operatic fashion, as a moment of high drama played by a large cast in a stage-like space and setting. This picture may well reflect the influence of contemporary theater on the artist. As an artist, Colyns is best remembered as the teacher of his more famous pupil, Salomon de Konick. His own works are relatively rare.
