Document source description
Yorimasa, seated within a fabric enclosure (at right), commands the Genji forces as they try to stop the Heike at the Uji Bridge (1180). Aiding the Genji are warrior-monks, identified by the white hoods over their helmets. The battle ended, however, as soon as the Heike were able to make a crossing below. Yorimasa then retired to a nearby shrine and committed suicide to prevent the dishonor of capture in defeat.
