Head of an Attendant Bodhisattva

7th century (Dvaravati)

15.5 cm 19.7 cm 9 cm

Citation Source image

This head probably came from a figure of a Bodhisattva (an eventual Buddha), who stood beside the Buddha. The facial expression suggests that he might be the protective Bodhisattva Vajrapani, who guards the Buddha against evil forces.
