Source Description
The lower portion of an Indo-Corinthian pilaster capital, this fragment presents a central femal figure carrying an offering surrounded by highly plastic and nearly symetrical leaves. The figure, likely a yakshi or female nature spirit, wears a high-girdled, close fitting chiton with short sleeves, fashionable during Hellenistic times. A complex hair style draws attention to her distinctly Western face, while large, grape-cluster earrings, popular in India, hang down toward her shoulders.
