Source Description

A collector of the time would have greatly appreciated the carver's virtuosity in joining the individual pieces of ivory to create an intricate composition on a relatively large scale, defying ivory's natural limits. By making the edges of the plaques of ivory coincide with the outlines of the figures, the artist ingeniously creates the illusion of continuity.
