I
My dear Mrs. White:
In reply to your letter of April 7th, I should lice to
explain that you are eligible for enrollment in the First Reserve
Z
because you are a widow. Being a widow places you in the same
i
classification as a nurse who is single, even though you have a
dppendent.
No doubt you have by this time received a communication
from the Army Corps Area Surgeon regarding an assigument to active
military duty. May me urge, therefore, that any letters you may
8
receive from the Army or from the Red Cross be answered promptly.
This is important at all tlues, but especially so during this

Mras
s.)
emergency. Since you have a dependent child, it would seem that
3
you would not be able to volunteer for active military duty. We
would suggest, therefore, that you explaia this when you answer any
letter received from the 2nd Corps Aréa Surgeon. Tie sholl also
4
appreciate your sending us informatic as to your marrisge when it
takes place, including both your present naxe and your new name.
et
Since you are not evailable for active military duty, we
trust you will find it possible to serve in some other capacity in
se
the national emergency. A great mony additional instructors are
needed to teach our Home Nursing courses. If you find it possible
to volunteer for this work, we vould suggest that you get in touch with
your local Red Cross Chapter. Talking enrollment to nurses eligible
for military duty is also à way in which those who cannot serve can
help in securing the large number of nurses needed for service with
the Army and Navy Nurse Corps. The first step toward an assignment
for military duty is the filing of en application for enrollment.
With appreciation for anything you can do by way of
JI
hleping in this national emergency, I an
Sincerely yours,
it
