State if Connecticut Thnard nf Examination and Registration nf Nurses State Library 191 Miss Clara D. Noyes #2 H A condition we attempted to explain to you when you were in Hartford. 5 If you can give me some idea of the number of nurses meeded from Connecticut, we will immediately become more active in trying to recruit them from the present e graduate body, and if it becomes necessary, supplementing from those who will graduate between now and June 15th. There is a serious financial question involved right here in connection with this latter element, viz: those nurses nearing graduation, many of these girls are unable to go immediately into the sertice without being assured of the necessary equipment, and whatever money will be needed to tide them over. To whom shall we look for this support? This is a question which is daily being put to me by pupil nurses willing to go directly into the service, and I would appreciate very much an immediate reply to this question, either by wire or special delivery letter, so that it will reach me in time for an important meeting next Tuesday. While in Danbury a few days ago, I found much available material, but handicapped by some misunderstanding. It seems that during the fall, or early winter Rose M. Sheriden, a graduate of the Danbury Hospital, applied for enrollment in New York City, in order to join a unit of doctors, and nurses with whom she had been working, for "over-seas service". Miss Sheriden was denied enrollment. I have investigated her career as thoroughly as possible, and am unable to find out why she was not enrolled, as she is very well reccommended by her school, and the Danbury physicians for whom whe has worked. She is a registered nurse of Connecticut, and was apparently a fine physical speciman. She is, however, convalesing from an operation for
