Backus\n2\n414 South 8th Street\nMinneapolis, Minnesota\neita\ne\nMy dear Miss Backust\nWe assure you that it is with deep regret we have\nreceived\nCommittee illness\nyour on Red resignation Cross Nursing as Secretary Service of because at the home Minneapoli of which the serious make Local it\nof your mother and added responsibilities\nimpossible for you to give the necessary time to this work. Some-\ntime ago we received & letter from Miss Hestad, Chairman of the\nCommittee, explaining that she was writing for you because you were\nso busy on account o the illness of your mother but we had hoped\nthat perhaps by this time your mother was well on the way to recovery.\nLet us assure you of our sincere hope that- she may improve under\nyour good care.\nWe realize that under the circunstances you should\nbe promptly relieved of the responsibilities of the secretarial\noffice of the Local Committee and we are immediately writing to\nMiss Hestad asking her if she will be willing to serve in the\ndual capacity of Chairman and Acting Secretary until it is possible\nto find some other nurse for appointment in the secretarial office.\nNo doubt you have advised Miss Hestad that yousere sending in your\nresignation and we feel sure she will be only too glad to assist\nby granting oûr request.\nWe are accepting your resign tion as Secretary but\nwill continue to carry you as a member of the Local Committee even\nthough it may be necessary for you to be very inactive for a time.\nWe wish to take this opportunity to assure you of our gratitude and\ndeep appreciation of the fine service you have rendered as Secretary.\nIndeed we hope that sometime in the near future youmay again find it\npossible to take an active part in this work.\nWith incere good wishes and hoping that you will\nlet us hear from you from time to time.\nSincerely yours,\nMary Beard\nDirector, Nursing Service\nMil-so"
