My dear Mr. Davis:
The commending officer of the detachment of U.S.
Marines embarked on the s.s. MAASDAM Has reported to the Navy
Department the invaluable assistance which was rendeited to the
American survivors by the following American Red Cross nurses:
Miss Geraldine Shuttleworth
Miss Mary Ann Sullivan
Miss Martha Reis
Miss Marguerite Malloy
Miss Frances Bacon
Miss Laurine Smith
I wish to express the sincere appreciation of the Navy
Department for their first aid treatment and care of the wounded
under most adverse conditions.
