t ethics M a - 2 - Miss Mary H. Bethel - January 14, 1937 I In the meantime we are going to ask a very great favor of you. Would you be willing to take the files and records of our Atlanta Committee into your office and hold them indefinitely Furthermore, if there is a disaster and Mrs. Austin is asked to supply Red Cross nurses, would you allow her to go to your office to consult the records in order to secure the nurses needed for the emergency? We are under the impression that the record cards held by the Local Committee are not very up to date but we will try to have them brought up to date as soon as possible. In event Mrs. Austin should not cooperate immediately with our Nursing or general Field Representatives, or with this office in event of an emergeney, we would then suggest that you be promptly contacted and with the records of the Red Cross nurses in your possession and your knowledge of the nursing resources in Atlanta, you would be able to serve the Commi ttee. Mrs. M. S. Brooke, our General Field Representative in northern Georgia, will pay you 8 friendly call when she is in Atlanta the next time and I believe she was quite sorry over what occurred during the spring disaster end because she did not know thet she might refer to you and receive help from you. It is a long story, one I cannot write, but I am sure when Mrs. Brooke and Miss Dugger come to see you, they will tell you more about what actually happened. As soon as we hear from you in reply to this letter, we will write Miss Candlish and suggest that even though she is not planning to resign immediately, she shall transfer the committee files to your office in order that they may be in a central place and easily accessible for emergency purposes. In the meantime you may be willing to survey your own resources and have ready, suggestions for nurses to serve on our Committee. Of course, they must be Red Cross nurses, but theyshould be representatives from schools of nursing, from the private duty group, as well as the public health nursing group, and any others you may have in mind. We should build up a Committee of about nine nurses and we would like to make it outstanding. With sincere good wishes to you and hoping for en early reply, believe me Very truly yours, Director of Nursing National Headquarters IFB MR-ee 3
