Maugle,\nEverett, Pennsylvenia.\nJ.\nMy doar Miss Maugle:\nD.\nWe are indeed glad to reply to your letter of June 25th inquiring\nabout public health training by sending an outline of educational conters\ngiving a course in public houlth nursing.\nTo make possible the preparation and appointment of qualified public\nhealth nurses we have a scholarship and loan fund which is available for a fow\nnurses whose apolications have been favorable passed upon and who wish to\ntake up public health work. You will understand thit these scholarships are\ngrunted only to applicants who meet the requirements of the different colleges\nand to such nurses who seem, from general qualification and previous training,\nto be best fitted to recoive them. The amount of the scholarships, it is\nhoped, will cover the nurse's living expenses as well as the tuition for the\ncourse which she lects to take. $300 is the amount for the four months course\nand $600 for the eight months' course. These Red Cross scholarships are divided\ninto two classos, the restricted and the unrestricted, and the nurse is privileged\nto solect whichever one she wishes. The former is the scholarship in accepting\nwhich the nurse signifies that she will enter the Red Cross Public Health Service\nfor at least one year following the completion of her course, and this has the ad-\nvantage of 0 guarantee to the nurse that a position will be ready for her. If,\nhowever, a nurse feels she would prefer to make hor own trrengements about a\nposition after completing her course, she would apply for the unrestricted scholar-\nship.
