    "ocrText": "Mr.\nAugust 22, 1942\nAIRWAIL\nan\nMfs. Jane c. Meyers Bonney\nEast Tawas, Michigan\nMy dear Mrs. Bonney:\n>our letter of August 20 has just been received. We expect that\nit\nwill take two to three weeks to get all credentials in order before\nyou would be asked to leave for San Francisco which will undoubtedly\nby your post of embarkation. (This is Confidential. Please do not\ndiscuss with anyone.) Therefore, if you can arrange your affairs with-\nin this time we will proceed to get your credentials in order.\nThe assignmeng for which we wish to offer you is for service with\nan emergency civilian hospital on the Island of Kauai, one of the Hawaiian\nIsland group. However, we would like you to realize that, due to the un-\npredictable nature of foreign service, you would be expected to agree to\nserve wherever requested and in whatever capacity the exigencies of the\nsituation demanded.\nIn order to determine your eligibility at the present time it will\nbe necessary to have your physical examination approved by our Red Cross\nmedical advisor. Please arrange for a thorough examination as a foreign\nassignment would be unwise unless your physical condition is now excellent.\nWe urge that you take the responsibility of impressing your physician with\nthis fact. Select your own physician and inform him that the Red Cross is\nprepared to pay for your examination, not to exceed $5.00. Hiss bill, if\nthere is one, should be submitted to this office in care of the Nursing Service.\nThe required immunizations are smallpox, triple typhoid and tetanus toxoid.\nIf you have not been vaccinated recently for smallpox, it would be wise to\nhave a repeat vaccination. As both the tetanus and typhoid innoculations are\ngiven in a series covering several weeks, it would be advisable for you to\nstart these immunizations as soon as you have word from us that you are\nphysically qualified to receive an appointment..Your teeth should be in good\ncondition so that you will not be in need of any immediate dental work.\nAlthough we want to get you ready for departure as soon as possible, do\nnot give up your present position until we are sure that your physical condition\nis approved and more final arrangements are made. If you wish to talk the\nsituation over with your employer to determine your possible release date so\nthat arrangements can be made for your successor, that is, of course, up to you."
