IN REPLY TO M. & S. NO
U. S. NAVAL HOSPITAL
Great Lakes, Ill.
A. R. C File
REG IVED
MAR 1 5 1918
March 12, 1918.
Referred to
Miss Jane A. Delano,
American Red Cross,
B
Washington, D.C.
My dear Miss Delano:-
In reference to your questions
concerning Miss Ring, she does live at the Nurses'
Quarters and she does receive a salary of forty
dollars per month. She took the course in Elemen-
Hygiene all but three lessons. These she did
not tary to the take headquarters on account Philadelphia. and did not take return She the
of illness
in to
examination as she had missed the lessons. took
a bandaging course at the Germantown Chapter of the
Red Cross, located in the Y.W.C.A., and would have
taken the exemination the day she reported here
for duty. She is a member of the West Philadelphia
Chapter of the Red Cross, the College Woman's Chap-
ter, and the Presbyterian Church Chapter, working
in each at various times, but her work was largely
in the College Woman's Chapter. She was not on the
list of any base hospital unit but she has been
doing excellent work in charge of the linen room
to bother you about these little
an
here. things, earnest I a.s a.m little you sorry are worker so very and busy, is trying but she so is hard such it to
do her share and do it right that I thought only
fair that she be made to feel more closely allied
to the Red Cross than just as a civilian employee.
If a uniform or a pin or some such insignia would
be allowed it would help very much.
