to tenance Mra August 21, 1942 F CLIPPER Miss F. Viola Young, Chief Nurse Viol. L 0 A.R.C. Hawaii Unit Sacred Heart Emergency Hospital (D Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A. - 5 My dear Miss Young and Staff: / Miss Peterson has written us such favorable reports of the way you, Miss Young, have carried the responsibility of the hospital administration and the way all of the Unit personnel have cooperated, that we want you to know how much we appreciate what you have done and are continuing to do. Will you please convey our gratitude to your entire staff and tell them they have upheld the tradition of the Red Cross Nursing Service, and for this they may be justly proud. We are proud of all of youl We are gratified that we were able to contribute, in a small way, to your pleasure and that the magazines are reaching you all right. We do hope you enjoy them. From Miss Peterson's recent letter, it would seem that the illnesses are on the decrease and for this we are deeply thankful. The amount of ill- ness among the group has given us serious concern and we trust that you are now all "on the mend" and will not experience any more such difficulties. In just about another month you will cease to be "our children" directly, but we are sure you will continue to carry on in the way you have started and will be a credit to both the American Red Cross and to our nursing profession. lie feel sure you will cooperate one hundred percent with the O.C.D. authorities there and do not anticipate any change of policy for your nursing activities. We are now recruiting another group to staff the new emergency civilian hospital on Kauai and hope you will have the privilege of meeting them and knowing them. As some of your group are already on Kauai making the necessary arrangements for the opening of the hospital, you will undoubtedly get to know each other. Even though you will belong, officially, to the O.C.D. after October 1, we will still keep in close touch with your activities through the official in the Department of Interior here who is in close touch with the Island's Emergency Medical and Hospital program. Our best wishes go to all of you and may you continue to carry on the fine work you have begun. You will go down in history as a group who have materially contributed to the nursing service of the Hawaiian Islands and have added a commendable chapter to the history of nursing there. u Cordially yours, a cc - Petroos Mary Beard Director, Nursing Service EBA7jb
